With The Loop at Pine and Ocean in DTLB officially opened for the public to explore and use, it was only appropriate that we give it a proper debut as a music venue as our free live music series, Live After 5, takes over The Loop to show off its architecture and space on May 12 from 5PM to 10PM.
“The Loop is more than just an architectural piece of art—it’s a public venue,” said Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) Placemaking Manager Sean Warner. “We have always planned to activate it with programming, especially live music—and now, we get to show off the potential of the space in a truly dynamic manner thanks to our Live After 5 series.”
With a lineup curated by Joshua Fischel, the debut of The Loop as a live music venue will offer visitors and residents of DTLB a distinctly unique experience: free live music surrounded by colorful lights in a sweeping sculpture under the towers of the Ocean Center Building and Landmark Square.
Headlining this month’s Live After 5 will be the Long Beach-based jazz-rock infusers known as The Vespertines. Joining them will be:
TV Heads (Los Angeles)
Neighbors to the North (San Diego)
Tacky Little Hatshop (Temecula)
The Loop has brought much-needed activation to the 7,700 sq. ft. space that had been dormant for decades after the Jergins Trust Building, which previously occupied the property, was demolished in 1985. Having opened over Grand Prix weekend, thousands have already explored the space but have yet to experience at full throttle as an event space.
