2nd Annual Unfiltered Photography Contest
Downtown’s Unfiltered photography contest launches for its second year, providing an opportunity for novice and professional photographers to engage with the downtown area. Contest participants will act as envoys providing their take on four categories for submission that include: people/place/events, architecture, environment, and skyline of Downtown Long Beach. UNFILTERED is a signature public art program that will archive the cityscape through the lenses of its residents and visitors from year to year.
Any DTLB photograph taken from October 1 – 31, 2018 which meets the submission requirements is eligible. All photos must be submitted through the online submission form from which a panel of community members and artists will choose 20 finalists for a public exhibition. One photograph will be selected from each of the four categories to receive recognition as a Viewfinder Award winner. Viewfinder Awardees will receive a prize. Additionally, a Fan Favorite will be selected from the 20 finalist photos through a public online vote following the exhibition. Lastly, all 20 finalist photos will be on display at the DLBA office for the entire year following the exhibition.

People, Places, Events:
This category asks photographers to frame the unexpected in Downtown Long Beach living; highlighting the people, places and events that create our unique and diverse character.
Long Beach is both an urban center and coastal city. Not only is it home to various downtown neighborhoods, but also flora and fauna and breathtaking views that make it a special place to unwind.
By highlighting the rich architectural history of Downtown Long Beach, photographers can capture the undeniable grace of our aging buildings and the vibrant lines of the newest developments.
This category looks to the unforgettable views of our Downtown skyline that no matter the time of day tells the story of a port town, a commercial center with a robust history of growth.
