A Safety Perception survey conducted by DLBA over the last few years shows that Downtown residents, visitors, workers and business owners have an increasingly positive view of Downtown Long Beach. They also have a greater awareness of the duties performed by the DLBA Clean and Safe Teams. This month, DLBA recognizes Star and Christian, the Clean and Safe Team Employees of the Quarter respectively, who work with other Team members daily to keep Downtown’s attractiveness and safety on an upswing.

Star represents the Clean Team, which, along with the DLBA Alley Busters employment assistance program, was responsible for removing over 17 tons of trash from Downtown trash receptacles, sidewalks and alleys in 2019.

Dedication runs in Star’s family: Her parents have been married for over 50 years, and she has a brother who has served in the United States Marine Corps for more than 20 years.

Star arrived in Long Beach in 2016. “The City grew on me,” said Star. “It’s a welcoming community.”

Christian, a Long Beach native, Marine Corps veteran and big brother to three siblings, receives his Safe Team Employee of the Quarter accolade after being with the Team for just six months. He sees Long Beach as a progressive metropolis filled with people from many cultures. This drives him to be part of the efforts to keep the Downtown clean and safe.

Christian prides himself in being a good communicator, an essential skill for a Safe Team member. He hopes to continue his education as a protector with a goal to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Anti-Terrorism.

DLBA congratulates Star and Christian, whose diligent efforts are bringing positive energy, effort and optimism to a new decade in Downtown.
