Long Beach, CA (January 9, 2023)The Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DLBA) is pleased to invite the community and local artists to the first Downtown Art Walk of 2024. The second Art Walk in the new quarterly series will take place on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 4 to 9 PM, with the next events scheduled for Saturday, April 13 and Saturday, July 13, 2024. The effort is a collaboration between DLBA, Arts Council for Long Beach, DreamKreator Studios, Grey LB, and Studio One Eleven. 

“We are thrilled to be helping put on the upcoming Art Walk, a celebration of creativity and community,” said DLBA President & CEO Austin Metoyer. “This event not only showcases the incredible talent within Long Beach but also brings people together to experience the unique charm and artistic spirit that is entrenched in downtown.” 

 All are encouraged to attend, support local artists, visit and shop at participating Downtown businesses, and explore the following main activations:  

 

Exhibitions & Activities:  

Exhibition: Counter:image 

Location: Former Acres of Books of Building (240 Long Beach Blvd.)   

Studio One Eleven launches their “We Activate Our Cities” initiative with the exhibition, “Counter:image,” at the former Acres of Books Building in DTLB. “Counter:image” invites you to explore diverse perspectives through the lens of multidisciplinary contemporary artists. This exploration aims to showcase the power of artistic expression to reframe, redefine, and counter the images shaping our understanding of the world. More info on the exhibit is available here. 

Exhibition: Living Spaces 

Location: Long Beach Museum of Art Downtown (356 E 3rd St.)  

Embark on a captivating journey through the Long Beach Museum of Art’s latest exhibition, “Living Spaces” by esteemed artist Tidawhitney Lek, a Long Beach native. Lek’s inaugural solo museum show transcends boundaries, intertwining family, culture, and history in a powerful narrative. More info is available here 

Exhibition: Mark Morale & Steve Stein  

Location: Hellada Gallery (117 Linden Ave.)  

Hellada Gallery will host a reception from Noon to 9 PM, for their two resident artists Mark Morale and Steve Stein, whose works will be on display during the Art Walk. Morale’s work focuses on tactile art, creating vibrant, textured paintings that explore the beauty of aquatic life. Stein works through various mediums including photography, computer-generated designs, ceramics, and colored pencils. More info is available here 

Artist Village at Mosaic  

Location: The Promenade between 3rd Street & 4th Street  

Experience the enchanting ambiance of the Artist Village at Mosaic, featuring a mesmerizing candlelight music set by DJ Marlon X that will set the mood for an unforgettable evening. Joining the lineup are the soulful sounds of the Jazz Angels and the rhythmic melodies of Martin Espino, creating a harmonious fusion of art and music that promises to captivate your senses. Don’t miss this unique cultural celebration under the stars.
