(LONG BEACH, CA – October 3, 2023) The Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DLBA) is thrilled to announce its annual DTLB Unfiltered photo competition, taking place from Oct. 1 through Oct. 22, 2023. In a robust partnership with the Arts Council for Long Beach (ACLB) and Happily Bearded After, this competition invites photographers of all calibers – from amateurs to professionals – to capture the spirit and vibrancy of Downtown Long Beach.

“This competition goes beyond just capturing stunning visuals. It’s a showcase of the heartbeat of Downtown Long Beach, driving attention and support to our local businesses and neighborhoods,” said DLBA President and CEO, Austin Metoyer. “Each photograph tells a story of our city’s beauty and resilience, and we’re proud to facilitate this celebration of our community’s unique character.”

This year’s competition introduces three fresh categories: ‘Shop Small,’ spotlighting local businesses, ‘Food & Drink,’ focusing on the city’s culinary delights, and ‘Outside the Frame’ which encapsulates the beauty of all seasons. These, along with the standing categories of ‘People, Places & Events,’ ‘Skyline & Architecture,’ and ‘Flora & Fauna,’ provide a platform for participants to reflect the diverse community, culture, and creativity of Downtown Long Beach.

“We are thrilled to be part of the DLBA Unfiltered Photo competition happening this October Arts Month,” said Griselda Suarez, ACLB Executive Director. “Downtown Long Beach is a great photography destination, with its vibrant streets, stunning architecture, and unique people. We can’t wait to see the stunning entries and witness the power of art to bring communities together.”

Enhancing the experience, participants have the opportunity to join two distinct photography walks led by Long Beach Night Walks coordinator, Travis Stock-Tucker of Happily Bearded After. The initial walk is set for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6 PM, initiating at the Pike Outlets Ferris Wheel, and a daytime excursion on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10 AM, starting at the Long Beach Convention Center, finishing at the Downtown Art Walk. These events welcome photographers of all expertise levels to engage, learn, and capture the splendor of DTLB.

Winners will be celebrated by a select panel of judges appointed by the ACLB, with the grand announcement slated for late October. Champions in each category will receive $200 in gift cards to Downtown businesses, creating a delightful incentive to delve deeper into the local attractions and offerings.
