Downtown Long Beach Art + Design Walk

The DTLB Art + Design Walk, the fifth in the quarterly series, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12 throughout Downtown Long Beach’s unique neighborhoods. All are encouraged to attend, support local artists, visit and shop at participating Downtown businesses, and explore the following exhibitions and activations!

This Arts Month, join the DTLB Alliance’s annual photo competition, DTLB Unfiltered, from Oct. 1-22. Capture the essence of Downtown Long Beach in six exciting categories that celebrate DTLB’s community, culture, and creativity.

Join Long Beach Night Walks for a special DTLB Unfiltered photography walk during DTLB Art + Design Walk from 5 to 7 PM. Walks are two hours and are open to photographers of all levels who are interested in gathering with folks who enjoy the art of photography and are looking for a unique opportunity to capture the beauty of DTLB. Long Beach City College Art Gallery presents “Hologogy: Artist Practices as Co-Educators” debuting during DTLB Art + Design Walk

Long Beach City College Art Gallery presents “Hologogy: Artist Practices as Co-Educators”, a group exhibition which highlights the artistic contributions of Long Beach City College Sculpture and Ceramics Adjunct Faculty and instructional staff whose artistic practices serve as critical bridges between the art world and the classroom. The exhibition featuring the artwork of eight artist educators unveils on Saturday, Oct. 12, with an evening reception from 4:30 to 7:30 PM and will be on view through Nov. 9.

Long Beach Open Studio Tour: Downtown

In celebration of Long Beach Arts Month as well as the National Arts and Humanities Month, local artists open their studios to visitors for the Long Beach Open Studio Tour (LBOST) during 4 weekends in October. Visit the studios of more than 10 local artists in DTLB Oct. 12 and 13 from 1 to 5 PM. Come see your local artists in their working environments that are not usually open to the public. The LBOST is a free, self-guided, at your own pace event.  There is no ticket to buy.  All you need is the tour map. Follow along on Instagram @lbopenstudiotour.

The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) presents “Arteônica: Art, Science and Technology in Latin America Today”
628 Alamitos Ave.
“Arteônica” highlights the groundbreaking work of Brazilian electronic art pioneer Waldemar Cordeiro, one of South America’s first computer artists, who saw computers as tools for democratizing art and culture. Inspired by Cordeiro’s 1971 exhibition, this exploration of the last 60 years of electronic and cybernetic art features Latin American artists blending art, science, and technology. They continue to push boundaries with discussions on social engagement, Indigenous knowledge, memory, and global solidarity, shaping new and critical perspectives in the art world.

Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum (PIEAM) presents “Carried in Grace & Space”
695 Alamitos Ave.
JP (Jason Pereira), a descendant of Amerika Samoa and raised in Carson, CA on unceded Tongva land, presents “Carried in Grace & Space,” an exhibit sharing 18 months of stories from his fellowship with the Center for Cultural Power. JP’s art, supported by the Constellations Culture Change Fund, reflects his role as a cultural bearer, grounded in service, love, respect, and non-judgment. Visit PIEAM on Oct. 12 from 11 AM to 4 PM to see the show, which will be up through November 2024.

PIEAM’s mission is to amplify the collective wisdom of the Pacific Islands people of Oceania (Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia) through rotating installations and lived experiences. Our purpose is to connect the community to resources and foster intercultural exchanges with appreciation and respect. We recognize the unique kinship that exist between ancestor pieces, people and their histories and the obligation that comes with this recognition.

Loiter Galleries presents “Lasting Impressions”

Loiter Galleries will host a new art exhibit featuring Long Beach muralist Lajon and San Francisco-born Tomas De Los Reyes, opening Saturday, Oct. 12, from 5-9 PM. This marks Lajon’s first and only gallery show in 2024 before a planned hiatus. Both artists bring a dynamic blend of vibrant colors and cultural influences, with Lajon drawing inspiration from cartoons and pop culture, and Tomas from graffiti art and music. The exhibit, coinciding with the Long Beach Open Studios Tour and DTLB Art Walk, runs through Nov. 16. Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday, 5-8 PM, and Sunday, 1-4 PM.
