LONG BEACH, CA – (February 1, 2024) The Downtown Long Beach Alliance is excited to announce the opening of the application process for its spring-summer season Community Events Microgrant Program for events from April 1 to September 30, 2024.

Aiming to boost local initiatives and foster the creation of vibrant live events in Downtown Long Beach (DTLB), the Community Events Microgrant Program offers financial support ranging from $250 to $750. This opportunity is open to individuals, groups, businesses, neighborhood associations, and nonprofits interested in organizing events in DTLB.

“We are thrilled to launch another round of our microgrant program, reinforcing our commitment to nurturing the dynamic culture of Downtown Long Beach,” stated Justine Nevarez, Community Outreach & Events Manager. “Our previous cycles have brought forth innovative and engaging events, and we are eager to see the new experiences our community will propose for Downtown in this upcoming cycle.”

The last round of the program resulted in 9 grant winners for events in Downtown, including Winter in Willmore, Banjee Ball, and the upcoming When Art Happens: Harmony in Color on March 23.

Under Nevarez’s guidance, the Downtown Long Beach Alliance Special Events and Sponsorships Committee revised the application process in April 2023. This update was the first significant change since the program’s inception in 2012, emphasizing support for events that resonate with the organization’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) principles. The forthcoming microgrant cycle aims to continue to further this mission.

Applications are now open for events scheduled between April 1 and September 30, 2024. Prospective applicants should ensure their event location falls within DTLB’s service area boundaries. For detailed application guidelines and to submit an application, please visit the website here. The deadline for submissions is March 1.
