For those who desire an upscale urban living situation in Long Beach with ready access to everything Downtown has to offer, some beautiful new apartment options have sprung up over the last few years. Styled out with premier furnishings, life-enhancing amenities, stellar views, and a strong sense of community, they are walking distance from world-class arts and entertainment, boutique shopping, a variety of excellent eateries and drinkeries, and everything else that makes our city center so vibrant. Learn more about these four recent additions to the Downtown skyline.
This 10-story, 106-unit high-rise just south of Lincoln Park used to be the Verizon Tower. It was repurposed two years ago and is now one of Downtown’s most sleek and luxurious apartment buildings, offering lofts, studios, one and two bedroom apartments, and jewel box penthouses with atriums.
Units are equipped with Samsung appliances and full-size washers and dryers. Many have 11-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. The penthouses have some of the best panoramic views in the city. Apartments that are on the sixth floor and above have either ocean or city views, depending on which side they’re on.
Residents — an eclectic community of working professionals — get treated to events frequently, hosted by Greystar, the company that owns and operates the building.
“We try to hold a resident event every other month, sometimes in a vacant penthouse,” said Community Manager Phillip Mussa. “Last month we had an Oktoberfest ‘Welcome to Fall’ event. Residents can view the Grand Prix and fireworks shows from there. We’ve had paint nights and Taco Tuesdays. Our holiday party next month will be in a penthouse with food, drink, and music.”
Amenities include a well-equipped gym, a cardio room with additional equipment where H.I.I.T. and yoga classes happen, and a pool area with two BBQs, a spa, and a pool house room with a view of the beautiful rock garden. There is also a dog wash area.
“We always want to provide a top-tier experience for customer services, and to provide a safe and fun environment,” said Mussa. “We really partner with our residents. We take pride in making sure our property is clean and approachable. It’s a nice place to live.”
“We’re a boutique-style building, even though we are eight stories tall,” said Christine Campbell, who begins her duties as Aster’s Community Manager in December. “We have an upscale, Roaring ’20s vibe, with lots of blacks and golds. Local artists have painted murals on the walls of our gym and common areas.”
Campbell went on to describe the year-old Aster’s high-level, modern look. “We feature cabinetry with gold trimming, quartz countertops, and all brand-new appliances. Everything here looks very clean and modern. Our amenities include a 14-foot LED TV wall in one of the common areas, where lots of residents get together to watch Monday Night Football and the World Series. We have a beautiful pool and jacuzzi, and a twenty-four hour gym with machines, free weights, and boxing bags. CrossFit training is available too.”
Aster, at the corner of Broadway and Long Beach Boulevard, has a wide variety of residents, including many who moved here from another state or country, who love how centralized the building is. “On weekends they don’t even have to move their cars,” said Campbell. Our tenants describe Long Beach as its own world. They love the walkability here.”
A courtesy patrol is onsite from 6 PM to 7 AM every day, watching over a diverse tenant demographic that includes retirees, new families, young working adults, and professional athletes. “Our residents are amazing,” Campbell said. “They all know each other! We do resident events for them at least twice a month.”
As of this writing there are 35 vacant units at Aster. “I like this line of work because I want to make apartment hunting a pleasant experience,” noted Campbell. “I want prospective residents to feel welcomed and feel a sense of community. We’re really big on that here at Aster.”
Onni is actually two buildings — a mid-rise and a high-rise — that take up an entire Downtown block. They combine 432 luxury apartment homes (studios, one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, and three penthouses), inhabited by tenants who are “very diverse,” said Community Manager Ken Harrington. “They’re all over the map. They love our very European vibe, our marble countertops, and under-counter lighting. And our views, especially in our 25-story high-rise, are spectacular.”
Amenities include a full size pool, a basketball court, steam room, sauna, chef kitchen, and a two-story gym. Harrington mentioned that resident events held in these facilities are very well attended. “We just did an outside movie for Halloween, with popcorn, caramel apples, and an open bar,” he said.
Onni is active with community engagement, hosting Pride events in the courtyard, building a solid relationship with Downtown organizations, and developing an Onni Rewards program where residents can get discounts at participating local businesses.
Harrington pointed out that every Onni team member strives to give an exceptional living experience to every resident. “They take pride in delivering that,” he said. “We want to be part of the growth of Downtown Long Beach and the vision of a vibrant, walkable neighborhood.”
A glass and steel masterpiece located in the heart of Downtown on The Promenade, the Broadstone Inkwell Apartments was conceived as an urban retreat with a calm yet contemporary look, designed to welcome you back from your daily adventures. Its studio, one, two, and three-bedroom apartments are fun and creative — the opposite of ordinary!
“The signature look takes cues from the Port, drawing from industrial metals, ship fasteners, and dock ropes while contrasting these with polished details, luxe fabrics, and natural stones for the perfect weave of raw and sophisticated,” explained Felicia Hyde, Principal & Design Director for Lifestyle Studio // H. Hendy Associates.
Each apartment features the latest appliances, on-trend kitchens, open space plans and smart-home tech features. They incorporate natural light, smart storage, and a wide variety of sizes and designs to create a very personal home.
Broadstone Inkwell’s roof deck, courtyard, and lounges are among its excellent amenities. They are perfect settings for every kind of get-together.
