Creativity flourishes in Downtown Long Beach! Experience it for yourself this Saturday, July 13 during the DTLB Art Walk. Roam the different neighborhoods of Downtown and discover the work of painters, potters, musicians, filmmakers, tattooists, architects, robotics technicians, fashion designers, and many more talented creatives who will be presenting their work all afternoon and evening in a variety of festive settings.
This is the fourth quarterly installment of the 2024 DTLB Art Walk series and — with its huge roster of artistic talent — it could be considered this summer’s grand finale! Immerse yourself in the event and support a thriving arts community that has been evolving for decades. Here are just a few of the many Art Walk events you won’t want to miss:
Summer of UBE
This FREE all-day (1 to 8 PM) celebration of the Ube — the purple yam that’s a staple of Filipino culture — will feature Ube-infused dishes, desserts, and drinks in a street party atmosphere! 1st Street between Linden and Elm Avenues will be closed to auto traffic and will be alive with great music and dozens of fantastic arts, crafts, and food vendors. Bring the whole family!
ManiFEST Neighborhood Block Party
Here’s a FREE neighborhood ‘Block Party,’ this one hosted by the North Pine Neighborhood Association, that focuses on mental health and wellness in the North Pine neighborhood area. There will be music by DJ Jedi Mind Cuts, performances by local artists, meditation practitioners, a children’s interactive art project, a raffle, and more! The event happens from 4 to 7 PM in the Molina Healthcare Building parking lot, 604 Pine Ave.
While West
The art show While West, happening at Altar Society Brewing Co. at 230 Pine Ave. from 2 to 11 PM, spotlights over 45 artists and five musical acts. The event will feature a pop-up gallery showcasing both contemporary and traditional art forms that reflect the vibrant culture of the local arts community. While West is a one-stop shop for the abundant artistic talent found in Downtown!
Studio One Eleven
Studio One Eleven at 245 E 3rd St. will play host to TWO events during the Art Walk: 1) A screening of The Genius of Place: The Life and Work of Geoffrey Bawa, at 4 PM. Be inspired by the creativity and spiritual energy that infuses the work of Sri Lanka’s greatest architect! 2) The Muse Lab at Studio One Eleven will be hosting a Dog Paw Paint Workshop from 4 to 7 PM, in which you can create a floral masterpiece that incorporates your dog’s paw prints! All materials will be provided. Dogs must be leashed.
Artist Village at Grey LB
The event venue Grey LB at 237 Long Beach Blvd. will be the hub of the Art Walk and the home of the Artist’s Village. Visit from 2 to 7 PM and experience the full spectrum of artwork created by local artists! Stay later at Grey LB through midnight and experience Dear Long Beach, presented by Be Here Now Affairs, featuring local music and art!
Spacetime Collaborative presents CONTINUUM
From 5 to 9 PM, the former Acres of Books building at 240 Long Beach Blvd. will be home to CONTINUUM, an amazing group of interactive exhibits featuring robotics, projection mapping, fashion, photography, and Augmented Reality. Be there at 5 to get healing energy from a transformative sound bath by Oracle Gong!
LBMA Downtown
The Long Beach Museum of Art’s Downtown Annex at 356 E 3rd St. is thrilled to present the opening of “Chris Eckert: Overload,” an exhibition of large-scale installations inside and outside the building which touch on the themes of surveillance, control, privacy, and misinformation. The show, which runs through October 6, will be open for viewing from 5 to 9 PM on Art Walk day.
Dark Art Emporium 7th Annual Tiny Terrors Group Show
Dark Art Emporium Gallery & Oddities is hosting the first show in its new East Village location at 427 E 1st St.! The notoriously edgy gallery will feature the works of over 70 artists from all over the world in the 7th Annual Tiny Terrors Group Show. No work on display will be over 10″ X 10″. Bask in the macabre beauty and know that the Dark Art Emporium is ba-ack!
Hellada Art Gallery
Long-time East Village fixture Hellada Art Gallery at 117 Linden Ave. will be a fun and art-y Art Walk stop! From 4 to 9:30 PM the gallery will host live music, a film screening, an art exhibition, and artwork booths. Snacks and refreshments will be available.
