Transgender Day of Remembrance
November 20, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Join The LGBTQ Center Long Beach, Mayor Robert Garcia, Water Replenishment District of Southern California, First Council District Office, City of Long Beach, Villages at Cabrillo, Berlin Bistro, and the Human Services Student Association of Cal State Dominguez Hills for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR). On this day we stand in solidarity and honor the resiliency of our trans community. There will be a performance by Jaila Simms and Jazzmum Crayton will be delivering the keynote speech. We will also be offering refreshments and pastries for attendees. This event is free and all are welcome.
TDoR was created to memorialize those who are killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. This international event is held every November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 1998 was the impetus for the first vigil held in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder, like most anti-transgender murder cases, has yet to be solved.
