Show ‘n Tell, in collaboration with The Garage Theatre, are excited to announce their exciting new show: It’s all a Game! This is the second installment of Show ‘n Tell’s performative art series. This series strives to cultivate a deeper sense of community for Long Beach artists, by creating accessible performance opportunities and initiating discussion about the art-making process. Each installment provides a prompt or theme for creators to work and present whatever stems from it! It’s all a Game invites the audience to experience how games activate our sense of play for play’s sake – from nostalgia and loneliness to house rules and competition – roll the dice, it’s your turn!

This series provides a unique space for Long Beach artists to collaborate with one another in a way that may never have come to fruition otherwise. Although there are many opportunities for artmaking in the greater Los Angeles area, there are very few in Long Beach, which happens to be home to a bright art community. Show ‘n Tell’s dream is to continue to see these collaborations blossom across disciplines which will inherently enrich and elevate each other and our creative endeavors.

The Garage Theatre has been cultivating a wonderful relationship with fellow CSULB alums and movement phenoms Show ‘n Tell, to bring you yearly installments of original dance works. Last year, they were finally able to offer up their theatre for the premiere of Show ‘n Tell’s series, entitled Making House. This collaboration started in 2018, when Katelyn Sanchez and two other CSULB dance Alumni curated a show at The Garage Theatre. Matt Julian, a Garage Theatre company member, guided them through the process of producing a show in the space. In 2019, Alex Rix started massage school and discovered one of her classmates, Matt Anderson, was a co-founder of the theatre. Through these small connections, and the dream to bring more accessible performance opportunities to Long Beach, Show ‘n Tell reached out to the Garage, hoping that the space could become home to their idea. Show ‘n Tell’s mission toward collaboration, cultivation of community, and creation aligned with the mission of The Garage Theatre, and a great partnership was formed. The fact that CSULB is the Alma Mater for so many of the artists involved is just an added connection they get to share.

Located in downtown Long Beach, The Garage Theatre is a black box theatre, founded in the
belief that independent non-commercial theatre is vital to the future of the art form. They are run by a collaborative ensemble that strives to create a diverse body of work, take artistic risks, and
uncover social and human truths, and are committed to reaching a new theatre audience by
producing affordable works in a unique voice. The space may be intimate, but the love and support are mighty, and the roots the theatre has in the Long Beach community run deep.

Later in the 2024 season, The Garage Theatre audiences can look forward to seeing…
• “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” by James Cameron Mitchell, July 12th – August 3rd.
• “In the Blood” by Lori Parks, September 13th – October 12th.
• “Steam-Powered Rocket Ride to the Moon” by Jamie Sweet, November 15th – 23rd, and December 5th – 21st.

We’ll see you there!
