LONG BEACH, CA (Oct. 22, 2024) – Last Friday kicked off Downtown Long Beach Alliance‘s (DTLB Alliance) Community Events Microgrant winners’ events with one of the recipients being the Friday Night FAHM celebration of Filipino American History Month on Oct. 18, put on by Record Box and Long Beach Ubefest.
Out of 13 applicants, four winners were selected by a panel of Downtown community members to receive $1,000, and two were selected to receive $500 for this fall-winter season of the grant program.
“The DTLB Alliance’s Special Events & Sponsorships Committee is proud to award funds to these 6 community event organizers, helping bring exciting and diverse activations to Downtown,” said Justine Nevarez, DTLB Alliance Community Outreach & Events Manager. “We had an outstanding panel of judges this season, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support. We can’t wait to see these creative and exciting events come to life.”

- Record Box – Friday Night FAHM (event has passed): $1,000
Friday, Oct. 18, 6-10 PM at Record Box, 324 Elm Ave.
In honor of Filipino American History Month, Record Box and event partner, Long Beach Ubefest, hosted a community art show called “Friday Night FHAM” highlighting Filipino culture through art. An evening of Filipino art, music, and food at Long Beach’s only Filipino-owned record store. - Long Beach Vintage Etc. – Live Painting & Pop-Up Market: $500
Saturday, Oct. 26, 12-4 PM at Long Beach Vintage Etc., 737 Pine Ave.
The community can join in on painting a giant paint-by-numbers banner with local artist LaJon Miller. Alongside the art activation, a craft market featuring up to 20 local artisans, makers, and vintage sellers will be set up, with soft drinks and light snacks provided for attendees. - Musique Sur La Mer – Concert Series: $1,000
Sunday, Oct. 27 at 11 AM & Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 AM at Shoreline Village Off-Boardwalk Theatre and Community Area, 423 Shoreline Village Drive
Musique Sur La Mer, a non-profit organization inspiring excellence, leadership, and community service through music, will host two upcoming events in DTLB: “Halloween Spook-tacular!” will take place on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 11 AM and “Dia de los Muertos Festival” on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 AM. - Willmore City Heritage Association – Winter in Willmore: $1,000
Saturday, Dec. 7, 5-9 PM at The Bembridge House, 953 N Pk Cir
This year’s Winter in Willmore will be held at the nationally recognized historic Bembridge House featuring live music, children’s holiday activities, local market vendors, period Victorian actors, and pictures with Santa Claus, all set against the backdrop of falling snow. The annual event is free and open to the public. - Visit Gay Long Beach – Safe Spaces Long Beach Directory Launch Party: $1,000
Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, 2-5 PM at Confidential Coffee, 137 W. 6th St.
Launch party for Visit Gay Long Beach’s new Safe Spaces Long Beach Directory which showcases all the Long Beach businesses and organizations that have taken the “You Are Welcome Here” Safe Spaces Alliance Pledge. - Project X LB – Community Health Day: $500
Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 11 AM-2 PM, Willmore, West Gateway neighborhoods
Project X LB’s goal is to offer Downtown residents, businesses, and visitors free access to knowledge about incorporating self-care and hygiene into overall wellness. The organization will host an annual event that provides valuable social service resources, engaging family activities, and informative support from local non-profits and small businesses.
