Downtown Long Beach Art Walk: July 13, 2024

The DTLB Art Walk, the fourth in the quarterly series, will take place on Saturday, July 13, throughout Downtown Long Beach’s unique neighborhoods. All are encouraged to attend, support local artists, visit and shop at participating Downtown businesses, and explore the following exhibitions and activations on Saturday, July 13:

If you plan on riding your bike to DTLB Art Walk, there will be two bike valets where you can drop off your bike for free, courtesy of Pedal Movement, at the former Acres of Books Building (240 Long Beach Blvd.) and at Altar Society Brewing Co. (230 Pine Ave.).

FEATURED EXHIBITS

🌎 Spacetime Collaborative presents CONTINUUM (5 – 9 PM) 📍Former Acres of Books Building (240 Long Beach Blvd.)

An immersive experience of interactive exhibits, featuring photography, projection mapping, robotics, fashion, and AR. The exhibition kicks off with a transformative gong bath by Oracle Gong from 5 to 6 PM, followed by art, music, and exploration.

Ube Fest is an exciting celebration of the vibrant flavors and culture surrounding Ube! Taking place in the East Village Arts District, this festival will feature an array of ube-inspired dishes, desserts, and beverages from local vendors.

🎥 Chris Eckert: Overload (5 – 9 PM)📍LBMA Downtown 356 E 3rd St.

The Long Beach Museum of Art is excited to present “Chris Eckert: Overload,” an exhibition running from July 13 to October 6, 2024, at LBMA Downtown. Artist Chris Eckert’s large-scale installations, both inside and outside the museum, use machinery to explore themes of surveillance, control, privacy, and misinformation.

Dark Art Emporium is back at it with their first show since moving to their new location in the East Village Arts District! Featuring the works of over 70 artists from all over the world, each piece is tiny and under 10″ x 10″.

Clay on First Pottery Studio and Cone 11 Studio are joining forces for DTLB Art Walk with a pottery market featuring 30 to 40 artists, as well as $20 paint-a-planter classes inside. They’ll also have free mini pottery lessons out front, with 25% off all pottery classes (must purchase classes in person on July 13 during DTLB Art Walk to receive discount).

The Record Box will feature All Vinyl DJs curated by Girls on Wax, with Live Art & and Open Gallery provided by Miss Lestrange Art and an Art Showcase, “Abstract Horizons: Bridging Cultures,” featuring works by Ketty Chavez & RobCollage.

Stop by blu Prints Gallery, which will be featuring the works of local and international artists Nick Batzdorf, Mike Overlin, Alex Haig, Carlos Torres, Terry Fouche, Jac’qui Butler, and Francisco Rogido. Come meet the artists, enjoy the East Village and experience some amazing art.

The gallery will be exhibiting a preview of the work of Nick Batzdorf during DTLB Art Walk, and will continue the full exhibit over the following two weeks.

 

NORTH PINE

💆‍♀️ManiFEST Neighborhood NPNA Block Party (4 – 7 PM) 📍 Molina Healthcare Building Parking Lot (604 Pine Ave.)

A FREE neighborhood ‘Block Party’ that centers around mental health and wellness in the North Pine neighborhood area, specifically areas of North Pine neighborhood between 6th Street and Anaheim from Pacific to Long Beach Blvd. There will be: DJ and Long Beach performers, Meditation practitioners, a children’s interactive art project and a raffle + more!

🎬The Genius of Place: The Life and Work of Geoffrey Bawa, Sri Lanka’s Premier Architect (4 – 6 PM)  📍 Studio One Eleven 245 E 3rd St. 

Join Studio One Eleven in collaboration with the LA Design Festival’s Docos on Design Series at the Downtown Long Beach ArtWalk for an exclusive screening of the 2023 film celebrating the legendary Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. Directed by Afdhel Aziz and co-created by Paul Vu, this film offers an intimate exploration of Bawa’s iconic works, highlighting his profound influence on modern architecture in South Asia. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion led by Studio One Eleven Urban Design Director Shruti Shankar, featuring co-director and editor Paul Vu and architect, Gerhard Mayer, who worked with Bawa in his early career. Gain insight into Bawa’s creative process and the spiritual energy that infused his designs, as well as the filmmaking journey behind “The Genius of the Place.”

Stop by ISM Brewing & Kitchen on the Promenade and check out works of art by local artists Dave Van Patten, James Carey, and Kashira Edghill. DJ Jasper Cordon (@jasperxcordon), a student at Renaissance High School for the Arts, will be spinning and scratching records.

The upcoming art show While West, co-organized by Hunnibuzz, celebrates the city’s diversity with over 45 artists and five musical acts. Held at Altar Society, Long Beach’s oldest building, the event will feature a pop-up gallery showcasing both contemporary and traditional art forms that reflect the vibrant culture of our community. While West serves as a tribute to the abundant talent among us, affirming Long Beach’s rightful place on the artistic map.

Shades of Joy features the works of eight artists from Los Ruano Gallery. The eight artists are featuring works in various mediums, from acrylic and neon and black light paints, to Styrofoam, dioramas, and hand cut wood.

🐾 Dog Paw Paint Workshop at Muse Lab (4 – 7 PM) 📍 RDC-Studio One Eleven (245 E. 3rd St.)

Visit the Muse Lab to celebrate the bond between humans and their furry companions through art with a Dog Paw Paint Workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to create stunning floral paintings using an unconventional yet heartwarming technique: incorporating their dog’s paw prints. Attendees will receive guidance from talented artist Vanessa Reyes @nillareyes, ensuring each paw print becomes a unique brushstroke masterpiece.

All necessary materials, including non-toxic, pet-safe paints and canvases, will be provided, guaranteeing a hassle-free and enjoyable painting experience for both humans and their canine companions. Guests will finish the workshop with Muse Pet Ritual Botanical Pet-Care, an aromatherapeutic + essential oil infused pet spray for their furry ones and enjoy dog treats from @sourdogtreat.

*As a reminder please make sure that your furry companion is socially friendly. This event will include other pets, children, and large crowds. Dogs must be leashed, and dog owners must be able to maintain control over their pups at all times.
