The heart of Downtown Long Beach is hungry to keep the summer events season rolling! The second edition of this year’s three-part outdoor culinary event series Taste of Downtown, happening on June 7 and 8 from 5:30 to 10 PM, takes place on historic Pine Avenue and The Promenade, two thoroughfares in the center of Downtown packed with food and entertainment possibilities.
The event arrives on the heels of the East Village Taste — which drew great crowds earlier this month — and the hugely successful Downtown edition of Beach Streets, which brought thousands of happy cyclists, skaters, scooter-ers, and pedestrians to Downtown last weekend.
“The East Village Taste of Downtown on May 10 and 11 had a great showing, just shy of pre-pandemic attendance levels,” said Justine Nevarez, the Alliance’s Community Outreach and Events Manager. “The neighborhood was buzzing with great vibes. Then Beach Streets on May 20 brought out tens of thousands of people! Getting the community together to celebrate our amazing Downtown is always fun. We’re excited to keep the momentum going for more summer activities.”
Once again, Taste of Downtown offers food guaranteed to satisfy a variety of appetites. You’ll sample traditional Spanish and Irish dishes, vegan specialties, slices of pizza, richly fabulous desserts, burgers, and much more, all accompanied by beverages from local drinkeries.
Get a state-of-the-art Taste of Downtown memento: Pose for a 360-degree video portrait with your fellow Tasters! A camera on a long metal arm rotates around a platform where you and your pals can stand, pose, or dance, creating a social media-ready 360-degree video.
The Downtown studio J Graphix will host a booth where you can have items custom screen-printed onsite. Adding to the fun will be an assortment of lawn games (Cornhole, Giant Jenga, and others), which always provide hangout opportunities for couples, friends, and families. Providing the groovy soundtrack for both evenings is a Downtown Long Beach favorite, DJ HoneyMee.
Admission to Taste of Downtown is FREE. You can gain access to all those scrumptious treats by buying Taste Tickets at the event and redeeming them at the various food and drink vendor booths. Unused tickets from Celebrate Downtown and the East Village Taste can be used on both nights, and also at the Waterfront edition of Taste, which is happening August 9 and 10. Be sure to exchange your Celebrate tickets at one of the ticket booths.
We hope to see you out and about in the heart of Downtown on June 7 and 8, creating an eclectic dinner with your food samples or just priming your appetite for a sit-down meal at one of the many eateries which surround you. Downtown is thrilled to be your host on June 7 and 8 and all summer long!
