We’re bringing you the Grilled Cheese Trucks to a polling place, Long Beach. And a photo booth. And games. And free live music.
Why?
Though voter turnout has historically increased both county-wide and city-wide, much more than half of registered voters avoid the polls that ultimately select our leaders and propositions.
Which is where Place Make the Vote (PMTV) comes in.
As a Knight Cities Challenge Award recipient for its PMTV concept, City Fabrick in collaboration with Long Beach Rising!, the Long Beach City Clerk, and the DLBA have decided to unite under a common cause: to expand civic engagement in under-represented communities and celebrate the act of voting.
Seven locations throughout the city, including one in DTLB, will be activated by art, entertainment, furniture, food and people, and serve to visually attract residents to the polling site on voting day, Tuesday, November 8. Through social interactions and civic engagement, the Place-make the Vote idea hopes to engage more community members in the voting process.
The DLBA will specifically take over the Downtown location with activation at the northeast corner of 4th and Atlantic near Covenant Manor. We’ll have The Grilled Cheese Truck (11AM-3PM) and The Lobos Truck (4PM-8PM) on voting day), free live music, a free bike valet, lawn games, free photo booth thanks to Box of Cheese Photo Booths, and giveaways.
