There are several reasons the DTLB Unfiltered contest clicks with the Downtown Long Beach community: It’s open to everyone of any experience level, 18 and older, free, and chances are you have a smartphone or digital camera. That’s all you need to potentially win some valuable gift cards to spend on local businesses and, of course, bragging rights for a year.

“We are super excited to once again see the creativity from our community and visitors in capturing the unique spirit of Downtown,” said Justine Nevarez, DLBA Special Projects Coordinator. “It’s a great way to showcase and market the unique story of DTLB and we look forward to reviewing the different perspectives of the ever-changing landscape of our urban core.”

Now in its fourth year, the DLBA signature arts program is open for submissions through Nov. 30. Click here for details on how to enter including contest category descriptions, rules, and frequently asked questions. A 15-minute virtual orientation workshop is also available.

20 Finalists. 4 Category Winners. 1 Fan Favorite.

DLBA has once again partnered with the Arts Council for Long Beach on the contest that includes four different categories: people/place/events; architecture; environment; and the skyline of Downtown Long Beach. Contestants can enter one photo in each category.

“Downtown Long Beach Unfiltered encourages the public to engage with the landscape and people of Downtown by documenting the people, places, events, and architecture and capturing the current times,” said Griselda Suarez, Executive Director, Arts Council for Long Beach.

A panel of judges will select twenty finalists (five in each category) to be displayed in a live art gallery. A category winner (4) plus an overall fan favorite (online vote) will be named and win a prize.

The Arts Council and DLBA plan to host an Unfiltered Art Gallery on December 17 during the 3rd Friday’s on Pine. The team will celebrate the finalists, announce category winners, and open voting for a Fan Favorite that will go through January 5, 2022. DLBA plans to feature the finalist photos in its offices for one year.

The annual Unfiltered DTLB showcases and promotes the ever-changing beauty, creativity and unique sense of place that is DTLB. It enables members of the community to capture Downtown in a moment of time and share a part of its story. Our vibrant urban core is constantly being developed and changing including in the key neighborhoods that together make up our one Downtown.
