Over the past year, the City of Long Beach has been in the planning and preliminary design process for improvements to the waterfront concession buildings. In the Downtown area, the existing Alamitos Beach Concession Building is composed of three sections: food concession, recreational beach rentals (such as bikes, paddle boards, etc.) and public restrooms. The project will look to update the existing building and add public amenities for beach visitors.
Yesterday the first renderings of the proposed design for the new concession building were unveiled. The design was created by firms Ra-Da and Salt Design Studio and kept in mind the goals of enhancing the beach experience, supporting existing activities, and creating a safe and welcoming environment.
In addition to cafes, the proposed design includes area for games with ping pong tables, corn-hole and a games closet. Not to leave the little ones out, a play dune area was also proposed complete with slides and kid-friendly rock climbing walls.
“Rebuilding these Concession Buildings will transform the area, activate more beach recreation and increase synergy with other coastal amenities,” said Councilmember Jeannine Pearce.
Connecting the waterfront to the Downtown core has long been a goal of ours here at the DLBA, and offering more dining and drinking right on the beach will go a long way toward that goal.
