Nodding toward more established music festivals and their love of art installations, Music Tastes Good (MTG)—the inaugural three-day music fest set to invade DTLB September 23 through 25—has announced that it is seeking artists, designers, creatives and makers to submit their best ideas for creating artistic activations to be present during the Saturday of the inaugural music and food festival to take place late September.

With the distinct flavor of DTLB and a bit smaller in scale compared to massive festivals like Life Is Beautiful and SXSW, MTG wants large art installations paired with its large lineup. (And for artists worried about the one-day installation, fear not: if you have an installation available for all three days, you can submit your proposal; the requirement is that it is in place on Saturday, the festival’s longest and most crowded day).

While organizers—which includes Live After 5 curator Joshua Fischel at the helm—project tens of thousands of attendees invading the Downtown in search of quality live jams, what proves to be true fresh off the festival’s lineup announcement is that acts like Iron & Wine, Warpaint, De La Soul and Sylvan Esso will join old-school talents like The Specials to headline. Other artists on the bill include Dr. Dog, Gallant, Deltron 3030, The Melvins, Living Colour, Twin Peaks, Las Cafeteras, RX Bandits, Metz, Kate Tempest, Nick Waterhouse, Cody Chesnutt and Girlpool.

Organizers haven’t shied away from local talent either, bringing on Dustin Lovelis, Rudy De Anda, Spare Parts For Broken Hearts, and more.

The call for artists proves to add an important aspect of supporting not just musicians, but local artists as well.

“At MTG, we are very committed to celebrating our local Artists, Musicians and Chefs while getting them in front of a wider audience,” Fischel told the Long Beach Post. “For our art component, we are very lucky to have local art guru and champion, Nicolassa Galvez, curating our large scale installations. Niko and company are going to transform downtown into a different world. We can’t wait for you to see it.”
