The tragic murder of four-year-old Jennebel Anaya and her mother, 26-year-old Carina Mancera, by an unidentified shooter has left DTLB and Long Beach as a whole shocked, saddened, and deeply disturbed.

Yet, after the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) called on the public to offer information, little has been received. According to the Press-Telegram, the LBPD has received just a handful of phone calls from the public in their search for information about who murdered the victims on Saturday as they returned from a grocery store.

“I was a little disheartened by that,” Sgt. Robert Woods of the LBPD said at a press gathering on Monday. “I thought we would just have an influx of information coming from the public but we haven’t had it yet.”

The perturbing aspect is that there appears to be no motive at all: the family was well-liked, well-loved, has no gang affiliations, and contributed to their community.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting to call detectives Scott Lasch and Michael Hubbard at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips can also be submitted at 1-800-222-8477, texting TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637) or visit lacrimestoppers.org

Additionally, a GoFundMe has been set up to help by father Luis Anaya cover their funeral costs. “Our family is heartbroken with this tragic event, and we hope that you can help us give these two beautiful souls a graceful resting place,” the page read.
