The next Summer and Music (SAM) event, Twisted at the Pike in DTLB, is set to take place Saturday, July 9 from 5PM to 11PM, with Santa Barbara-based indie rock outfit Gardens & Villa headlining.

Twisted at the Pike is SAM’s carnival-centric event that celebrates what makes Long Beach extraordinary: innovative music, curious carny folk, tribal fire belly dancing, local grub, craft beer thanks to Auld Dubliner and more.

“Twisted continues to represent and promote SAM’s precocious, experimental side,” said SAM organizer Ashley Hectus. “We encourage every progressive, pleasure-seeker in the area to attend this event. It’s a great opportunity to drink in peculiarity, hear some radical new music, let loose and hopefully come away feeling inspired.”

Led by songwriters Chris Lynch and Adam Rasmussen, headliners Gardens & Villa has built a name for their selves after releasing their self-titled debut in 2011. Through witty, unique nods to everyone from Brian Eno to David Bowie, the band’s sound remains approachable and fun.

Joining Gardens & Villa will be Los Angeles-based duo JJUUJJUU bringing their psychedelic sound. The pair slowly watched their 2013 EP FRST gain traction throughout the state and with the release of the video “Bleck,” have announced their new record for this year.

Also hailing from Los Angeles with strong Long Beach ties, The Molochs have been influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Modern Lovers, and The Kinks. The four-piece outfit have a retro sound that harkens to the minimalist approach taken by folk artists from the 60s but, per the band’s words, “acknowledge all that has come between then and now; we refuse to stand as mere retrospect.”

Long Beach-based Furcast has been called “your favorite band’s favorite band”—and for good reason. The four-piece ensemble has been making music since 2009, creating a style that somehow blends hip hop, jazz, R&B, and psychedelia into a cohesive sound.

Rounding out the entertainment will be DJ BIX spinning tunes before and in-between sets and, as always, the fire-dancing awesomeness that is Sirena Serpentina

Twisted at the Pike will take place on Saturday, July 9, at The Pike Outlets located at 95 S. Pine Avenue in DTLB. The event will start at 5PM and end at 11PM.
