“Dance is the hidden language of the soul,” said legendary American dancer/choreographer Martha Graham. Dance Downtown Revolution, the free weekly dance class on The Promenade, first got the community moving back in March through May. After a short break, the series picked back up in August for its summer/fall season, which runs through October.
This month, we’re putting a special spotlight on September’s lineup — five Tuesday nights filled with music, movement, and end-of-summer energy at 212 The Promenade N from 6 to 8 PM, where classes will be offered in a different dance style each week!
TUESDAY, SEPT. 2: CRayProject, a community dance, art, & fellowship collective, will school you in the finer points of Hip-Hop dance! Make sure to limber up, because you’ll be learning a variety of moves in this athletic street dance style, including popping, locking, and breaking.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 9: AG Enhancement & Entertainment Services assures you that whether you are an experienced line dancer or just getting started, there is a place for you in this class! You will get familiar with the latest line dances, meet some fun people, and burn plenty of calories.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 16: Dance teacher Kindra Mosher invites all you hodads & honeys to put on your coolest early ’60s surfer attire and show up for this Retro Beach Dance Party! You’ll learn moves such as The Twist, the Frug, and The Surfer Stomp, accompanied by the tunes of surf music icons like The Beach Boys and Dick Dale.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 23: Delilah Real will be teaching a class in Upbeat Contemporary Folklorico, a vibrant and dynamic expression of Mexican culture that blends traditional and modern elements.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 30: Dolly Rizzo, an instructor with the Soul Strength Dance fitness & dance experience, will teach you informal and improvisational street dance styles that emerged before the full development of hip-hop culture. You’ll be popping, locking, and waving to funky hits from half a century ago!

Dance Downtown Revolution will continue on The Promenade every Tuesday through October. Click here for details on October’s dance class lineup.
