Visual art and music combine with MOLAA and the Long Beach Opera both having a focus on Friday Kahlo this month. On Friday, June 9, Long Beach Opera and the Museum of Latin American Art present Frida Kahlo: Pain and Passion. Art and Opera, this multimedia event will promote a non-compromising, non-apologetic, modern experience of Frida Kahlo’s life and art in promotion of the Southern California Opera premiere.

With guest singers Laura Virella and Bernardo Bermudez playing Frida and Diego Rivera, Gregorio Luke will lead us through a fascinating, multi-layered presentation into this weapon of femininity and societal defiance. Pain and Passion, in bold and vivid colors, the life and art of Frida Kahlo’s complex story takes the stage. Only $10, this event is will not be a full opera performance, but a preview – and is not to be missed.

This leads to a limited engagement of a month of performances by Long Beach Opera at MOLAA throughout June on June 17&18 and June 24&25, . Famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo lived as she painted—with pain and passion in bold, vibrant colors. This celebration of Kahlo’s vivacious spirit, sexuality, fragility and her tumultuous life with muralist Diego Rivera is captured with music as rich and haunting as her art. Music by Robert Xavier Rodríguez
