
Inspiration. Energy. Expression. Fun. High-level concepts like these will be on your mind all day in DTLB this Saturday, Oct. 11 during the Arts Month edition of the DTLB Art + Design Walk!
Sunny skies, mild temperatures, and a whiff of Halloween will help make your Downtown art expedition very enjoyable. You’ll be watching DTLB rep the very best in local artistry and invention! It’s a full day of fun which begins at 2 PM (some activations will start earlier), winds up around 7 PM, and dovetails nicely into a Party on Pine (between 3rd and 5th St.) ‘til 9 PM and a hot after-party at Altar Society that goes ‘til 2 AM!
Downtown is proud to once again host the U.S. International Poster Biennial, which features 200 posters selected from over 12,000 submissions. These eye-grabbing artworks will be on display in various DTLB locations during the Art Walk and beyond.
The Artist Village at Mosaic, on the Promenade N between 3rd and 4th St., is an Art Walk hub. From 2 to 7 PM you’ll see dancers from Downtown’s Renaissance High School for the Arts, a live broadcast from DTLB radio station KLBP, grotesque caricatures drawn by the Scum Choir, a pop-up fashion show, and much more!
Many galleries and shops will be adding live and DJ-driven music to the mix. Long Beach Vintage Etc. at 737 Pine Ave. will have local DJs serenade you as you shop the incredible selections offered by more than 30 vintage vendors. The Elemental Shop at 312 Elm Ave. will have Dia de Los Muertos altars on display and singer/songwriter Elijah Ensor adding to the mood.
Just down the street, the East Village Art Block will be happening on 1st St. between Elm Ave. and Linden Ave.from 2 to 7 PM. Enjoy live music, free kids activities, art show openings, sidewalk vendors, plenty of tasty food and drink, and the East Village’s cool vibes!
Author D.J. Waldie, known for The Holy Land, his poetic and deeply researched book about the post-war origins of Lakewood, California, will be reading from his latest book, Elements of Los Angeles: Earth, Water, Air, Fire at Studio One Eleven, another Art Walk hub at 235 E. 3rd St. He’ll read from 3 to 4 PM and will stay to sign books until 5 PM.
Creative Class Collective (CCC) is sharing a special exhibition from 5 to 7 PM at the Edison Theatre, 213 E Broadway. It provides a look into the creative future CCC is building by spotlighting world-class artists and youth creators whose works celebrate community, innovation, and creativity.
Altar Society at 230 Pine Ave. is hosting “Artober Nights,” an intimate art and music showcase from 7 to 9 PM, when it turns into an electrifying after-party ‘til 2 AM! There will be live painting, local vendors, and a stellar DJ lineup to be announced very soon.
Make sure to allot some time to Party on Pine! Experience a Downtown sunset as you dig some live music, fantastic food, local business pop-ups and much, much more.
