Long Beach Underground: TEMPLES
October 16 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Long Beach, CA — Following the success of their Design Dinner collaboration for the LA Design Festival this past summer, the DTLB Design District and LB Food Coma reunite to continue their exploration of design, food, and experience with the debut of Long Beach Underground: TEMPLES.
This October, descend into the hidden history of downtown for the first chapter of the Long Beach Underground Series, an immersive evening that blends food and craft, architecture, and storytelling across two of Downtown Long Beach’s most storied landmarks: The Masonic Temple and The Psychic Temple.
Guests enter through an unmarked alley door and follow the flicker of candlelight into the century-old Psychic Temple, built in 1905 by spiritualist Dr. W.R. Price. Now home to Intertrend, a global creative agency and Creative Class Collective, a non profit organization, this former sanctuary of “new psychology” still hums with the energy of its past. Within its shadowed halls, a spiritualist’s voice drifts through the air and a quiet conjuring unfolds, part séance, part spectacle. With cocktails in hand, guests move through an experience designed to blur the line between performance and possession.
Across Pine Avenue stands The Masonic Temple, completed in 1903, a monument of stone and symmetry once devoted to ritual and fraternity. Both the Masonic Temple and the Psychic Temple were designed by Henry F. Starbuck, one of Long Beach’s earliest and most prolific architects, whose vision helped define the city’s early skyline.
Now home to Altar Society Brewery & Restaurant, the Masonic’s grand hall and basement becomes the setting for a haunted tour. Beneath its vaulted ceilings and radiant sun mural, guests will explore the building’s storied past before returning to the brewpub for a communal meal. Amid the glow of copper tanks and the hum of the old temple’s bones, diners will enjoy craft drinks, hearty offerings, and stories whispered from the building’s haunted history, tales that have lingered for more than a century.
A Haunted Supper Beneath the City’s Past
TEMPLES unfolds as a progressive journey through two historic sites, beginning in the dim depths of the Psychic Temple and culminating in a haunting dinner within The Masonic Temple. Each course, cocktail, and soundscape is crafted to awaken the senses and stir the imagination, echoing the mysteries that linger beneath Pine Avenue.
This is not a ghost tour. It’s a haunting.
