In an increasingly digital world, the bicycle has largely remained analog. That’s what the upcoming Electric Bike Expo aims to remedy in February at the Long Beach Convention Center.

For those unfamiliar, an e-bike looks like a regular bicycle but it has a motor, a rechargeable battery and a drivetrain. The idea is not to completely replace human power, but to augment it. So if you’re facing a headwind or a steep hill, riders will get a boost and be able to travel further without getting exhausted.

And here we are in DTLB – one of the bike-friendliest neighborhoods in one of the bike-friendliest cities in America. The three-day event happening from February 24-26 will offer test rides on dozens of electric bikes from many brands for free.

According to the Electric Bike Association, e-bike brand managers believe that consumer demos are a crucial part of the sales process because e-bikes may be seen as a novelty in the U.S. And for those feeling lucky, Tempo Bicycles will be raffling off one of their Carmel or Santa Barbara hybrid electric bicycles worth $4,000 to a lucky winner. The raffle proceeds will go to a local bike advocacy organization. The raffle tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the Expo.
