DTLB Art + Design Walk taking place Saturday, Feb. 8 from 2 to 7 PM (some times vary per location)

Long Beach, CA (Feb. 6, 2025) – The Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DTLB Alliance) is excited to bring the return of the DTLB Art + Design Walk this coming Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. This dynamic quarterly event celebrates the creativity and diversity of Downtown Long Beach’s thriving art and design scene, offering attendees the chance to explore local galleries, businesses, and creative spaces.

This iteration of the DTLB Art + Design Walk will feature a Black History Month celebration and a variety of local artists, designers, and musicians spread across more than 40 Downtown venues, from iconic spaces such The Edison Theatre and LBMA Downtown to newer creative hubs.

“The Downtown Long Beach Art + Design Walk is more than just an art event—it’s a celebration of the culture and creative spirit that makes this city so special,” said Austin Metoyer, DTLB Alliance President & CEO. “We are proud to provide a platform for local artists, musicians, and makers to share their work with the community while transforming DTLB into a vibrant hub of expression. This walk is a testament to the power of art in bringing people together, sparking conversations, and shaping the heartbeat of Long Beach.”

Highlighted exhibitions, festivals and group shows include:

Legacy & Unity: Black History Celebration (12-4PM)
Location:
The Promenade N between 3rd and 4th streets at Mosaic
A vibrant celebration of African American history, culture, and achievements. This free, family-friendly event will feature a vendor marketplace, live performances, educational resource booths, cultural exhibits, wellness resources, and fun activities for all ages. Come honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future with DIG LIFECouncilwoman Mary Zendejas, and the Long Beach-Mombasa Sister Cities Association.

Mosaic Artist Village (2 to 7PM)
Location:
The Promenade N. between 4th and 5th streets at Mosaic
Attendees can visit the Artist Village at Mosaic on the Promenade between 4th and 5th streets, experience performances by B-Tip (2-4PM) and Mikol (4:30-6:30PM), and peruse the artworks of local artists Earth to Virgo (Sasha Washington), Jocelyn Howard, Jasimen Phillips, Jeremiah Roborough, Liquid Burnz (Arteka Robinson), Stan the Man Paints, Shoemoney, and ARD!S.

Second Saturdays Art Block
Location:
1st Street (between Elm and Linden avenues)
The Second Saturday Art Walk in DTLB’s East Village Arts District is back! Check out the following events happening between Elm and Linden avenues:

  • Form Familiar at Clay on First Pottery Studio (406 E. 1st St.)
  • Famine Moon at The Dark Art Emporium (427 E. 1st St.)
  • Benjamin Frederick Art at Burke Mercantile (435 E. 1st St.)
  • Alicia Shiann and N.A.$.A at BYO Long Beach (431 E. 1st St.)

COVERS Art Show
Location:
Record Box, 324 Elm Ave.
Artists have come together for the community during the fourth installment of Record Box’s COVERS art show. The majority of all sales from artwork purchases will be donated to LA fire relief efforts. Record Box pairs records missing their original cover with artists to create new re-imagined 1 of 1 covers, with the group show curated by the talented @artisttocs.

Arteônica
Location:
Museum of Latin American Art at 628 Alamitos Ave.
Arteônica: Art, Science and Technology in Latin America Today takes as its starting point the unparalleled contribution of Brazilian electronic art pioneer Waldemar Cordeiro (Italy, 1925 – Brazil, 1973)— one of the first computer artists in South America — to explore and analyze the state of electronic and cybernetic arts in the last 60 years. Cordeiro’s treatise on arteônica—a verbal synthesis of electronic art and the original title of the exhibition he held in Brazil in 1971—features the computer as an instrument for positive social change capable of democratizing art and culture.

Practice & Pedagogy
Location: LBMA Downtown at 356 E. 3rd St.
Practice and Pedagogy features a selection of works by the full-time studio art faculty in the Visual and Media Arts Department at Long Beach City College. Participating Artists: Carolyn Castaño, Christopher Chinn, Tanya Crane, Brian Doan, Gerardo Monterrubio, Stas Orlovski, and Michael Wilde.

Creative Class Collective Presents Rhizome or Die by artist b1n4ry
Location: The Edison Theatre, 213 E. Broadway
Rhizome or Die delves into the contemporary ways humans contribute to a decaying world. It highlights issues such as rising sea levels, increased oil and gas extraction, and the strain placed on power grids by new technologies like AI. This thought-provoking art installation, also part of Downtown Design District’s contributing events, examines humanity’s impact on the environment while exploring innovative solutions to these challenges.

More Downtown Design District contributions to DTLB Art + Design Walk include:

  • Intertrend’s Year of the Snake Celebration at 228 E. Broadway where visitors can play a giant game of snake on the building’s exterior inspired by the nostalgic Nokia Snake game.
  • “What Do You Make in Long Beach?” on 4th Street between Pine Avenue and Long Beach Blvd., where a PARK(ing) Day-inspired pop-up will transform parking spaces into creative hubs, showcasing the diverse talent and craftsmanship of Long Beach.
  • Opening Reception for Shifting Tides: Evolution of Long Beach’s Waterfront at Studio One Eleven, 245 E. 3rd St. by Nathan Amondson.
  • Blossom Community at Studio One Eleven, 245 E. 3rd St. where attendees can experience the unveiling of a bespoke community scent inspired by the essence of Long Beach, crafted by Muse Apothecary and also participate in a hands-on flower workshop by Minna Fleur.
