Holiday traditions awaken the echoes of the past.  The Downtown Long Beach Alliance, implementing its Holiday Décor program for the sixth year, has festooned many areas of Downtown with lights, garlands, wreaths and bows, creating a warm, walk-enhancing look which harkens back to the Downtown of bygone eras.

DLBA is continuing a rich custom for Downtown Long Beach, which has provided a welcoming backdrop for holiday shoppers and revelers for decades upon decades.

“This annual program aims to celebrate the nostalgia and festiveness of the winter holidays,” said Mariah Hoffman, Placemaking Manager of DLBA’s Public Realm Department.  “We want to foster a greater sense of place and belonging within our Downtown community.”

The décor will remain in place through the first week of January.

Dekra-Lite, a company which specializes in streetscape décor, provided dozens of pole-mounted wreaths and bows, some lit with L.E.D. lights.  Their work can be seen at The Promenade, on 1st Street in the East Village, and along Broadway in Downtown.

The centerpiece of the Holiday Décor program is the set of 20 garlands which arch across several blocks of Pine Avenue.  Supplied by City Light and Power, the garlands, along with Pine’s historic buildings, evoke that certain “holidays in the city” sensation.

With the DLBA’s holiday décor aglow, and storefronts enticing pedestrians to step in from the chilly winter air, Downtown is waiting for you to create a splendid and memorable holiday shopping experience.
