May marks a happy month for bicyclists: Bike Month. While the month-long celebration has Metro promoting activities to encourage bicycling, this particular week marks Bike to Work Week/Day.

Across Los Angeles County this week, Metro will be offering free rides in the name of Bike to Work Day this Thursday. That’s right: bring your bike to the Blue Line, ride for free this week.

Long Beach itself will be celebrating Bike to Work Day with:

  • Pit Stop – We’ll have a Pit Stop at City Hall from 7am-9am to congratulate you for riding into work.
  • Bike Plan – Head to The Promenade during lunch for a fun and interactive bike plan feedback exercise. While you’re there, Bikeable Communities & Pedal Movement will be offering free bike tune-ups and CycleHop will help you get signed up for bike share. Share photos from the event on Facebook and Twitter using hashtag #LBBikePlan.
Coffee & Breakfast Treats at Berlin with Bike Ambassador Tony Cruz – On your way in to work, feel free to join Long Beach Bike Ambassador, Tony Cruz, for coffee, breakfast treats and a celebration of bike commuting at Berlin Bistro (420 E 4th St, Long Beach, CA 90802), too. Group rides will leave to City Hall every 30 minutes (8am – 9am).
