Banana split from Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt on The Boardwalk

There’s never a bad time for ice cream, but summer is the perfect excuse to explore Downtown Long Beach’s sweetest shops. From handcrafted scoops to over-the-top creations, each spot puts its own spin on a classic treat, making it easy to discover a new favorite while cooling off around Downtown. 

 

LONG BEACH CREAMERY  /  222 E BROADWAY 

How do you love ice cream handcrafted in-shop? Let us count the ways: Boysenberry Crumble, Honey Lavender, Whiskey Vanilla, and Black Ring Coffee, to name just a few. And don’t forget Sweet Summer Corn, described in the menu as “summer in a spoon!” Get your favorite flavor in a cone or waffle bowl, add a shop-made Brownie or a slice of St. Louis-style Buttercake and grab a pint to go. Order online for pick-up or local delivery.       

Hours: Tuesday, 5 to 9 PM; Wednesday, noon to 9 PM; Thursday, noon to 10 PM; Friday & Saturday, noon to 11 PM; Sunday, noon to 10 PM. Closed Monday. 

 

ICE CREAM & FROZEN YOGURT ON THE BOARDWALK  /  429 SHORELINE VILLAGE DR. 

This Shoreline Village spot is perfect for keeping it chill during your boardwalk stroll. There’s a fantastic variety of treats on the menu: Waffle Cones, Smoothies (Raspberry Rhapsody, Pineapple Paradise and nine more), Flurries (soft-serve vanilla yogurt with your choice of mix-ins), along with traditional Sundaes, Milk Shakes, and Malts. COOL TIP: The Banana Royale, which is basically a portable Banana Split!    

Hours: Sunday through Thursday from 10 AM to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM to 11 PM. 

 

COLD STONE CREAMERY  /  25 AQUARIUM WAY 

For a guaranteed way to turn up your ice cream craving, watch someone mix your dessert on a frozen granite slab! Signature creations include the Cookie Mintster (Mint Ice Cream with Oreo Cookies and Fudge) and the Reese’s Peanut Butter Awesome Sauce (Sweet Cream Ice Cream, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups & Reese’s Peanut Butter Sauce). You can also order your own custom creation to enjoy in a cup, as an ice cream cake, or in a quart container.   

Hours: Monday through Thursday, noon to 10 PM; Friday and Saturday, 11 AM to 11 PM; Sunday, 11 AM to 10 PM. 

 

LA MICHOACANA PLUS  /  22 AQUARIUM WAY 

La Michoacana Plus, just up the road from the Downtown Waterfront at The Pike, serves a fantastic assortment of ice cream treats in addition to its selection of Mexican street snacks. Try a Helado Flotante (ice cream float), a Canasta Tres Marias (three scoops of ice cream in a waffle basket), or pick from their huge menu of Paletas de Agua or Leche popsicles.

Hours: Open from 11 AM to 10 PM every day.   

 

THE FUNNEL HOUSE  /  425 SHORELINE VILLAGE DR. 

Ice cream is amazing by itself, of course, but if you want to go all-out, try a few scoops served Sundae style over some fresh baked funnel cake or a deep fried churro! Locals and visitors rave over these and other delectables such as Ice Cream Sandwiches made with a generous dollop of chocolate chip ice cream between two huge chocolate chip cookies. Have a seat at an outdoor table, enjoy the ocean breeze, and savor one of the best dessert spots in town. 

Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 10 AM to 11 PM; Friday and Saturday, 10 AM TO 1 AM.  

 

DOG HAUS BIERGARTEN  /  210 E 3RD ST.   

Just steps away from The Promenade, Dog Haus Biergarten has ample indoor seating so you can indulge in your Soft-Serve Vanilla Ice Cream or a Chocolate, Vanilla, or Caramel Shake in air conditioned comfort. There’s plenty of outside seating as well! Since you’re there, you might as well partake in breakfast, lunch, dinner, or shareables selected from a truly remarkable food menu. There are also lots of vegan and vegetarian options available. 

Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 8 AM to 10 PM; Friday and Saturday, 8 AM to midnight. 

 

LA MICHOACANA MONARCA  /  246 E 10TH ST. 

This colorful, cozy spot is perfect for grabbing a popsicle to go or relaxing in a comfy booth with your pals and a few scoops of ice cream while the corridos and cumbias play! The outstanding variety of popsicles includes such tasties as kiwi fruit, strawberry, and mango, and you have plentiful ice cream options as well. Try a Raspanieve, a traditional Mexican frozen dessert combining shaved ice with a scoop of ice cream, fresh fruit syrups, and condensed milk.  

Hours: 10:30 AM to 9 PM every day.
