It is one the world’s most respected and elite equestrian events, one where its three stops across the world are held in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Paris—that is, until now.

The Longines Masters lone stop in the U.S. will no longer be held in our neighbor to the north but right here in DTLB at the Long Beach Arena and Convention Center, bringing more than 120 riders and 150 horses come September 29 through October 2. The prize? More than $1M in cash thanks to a variety of sponsors, including headlining sponsor and Swiss watch maker Longines.

Plans for the event are to have the jumping competition in the Arena, with the horses stabled in the Convention Center. There also will be an exercise arena and Masters Village in the center, where visitors can get close to the horses and riders, along with other experiences.

While the event is high brow—including VIP packages that include booths with three-star Michelin chefs serving up meals—the organizers are already reaching out to local schools and community leaders to offer free or discounted admission to the event.

According to the Long Beach Business Journal, the Longines crew had no direct connection with Arena/Convention Center administrators or organizers when they popped in for a visit after the Los Angeles Conference Center was closed to them due to a rehab project. After seeing the $40M renovation of the Arena, Longines was happy to sign onto DTLB as their new US home.

“The Longines Masters of Los Angeles is one of the most prestigious equestrian events in the world, and the city of Long Beach is proud to host the American portion of the tour,” Mayor Robert Garcia stated. “Long Beach offers a unique blend of urban sophistication and beach city charm. Our downtown waterfront Arena is a perfect setting.”

Tickets are available as of Tuesday. For more information, go to www.longinesmasters.com.
