Condé Nast’s Traveler Magazine named Long Beach Airport (LGB) one of the best airports in the nation. Flying high along with Austin-Bergstrom in Texas and PDX in Oregon, Condé Nast applauds LGB’s recent expansion and modernization noting, “It’s the newer concourse that really makes the airport shine.”

Our airport is no stranger to accolades, having earned California Transportation Foundation’s Aviation Project of the Year in 2013, and being called “one of the most beautiful airports in the world” by the BBC. Locally, LGB even earns the respect of Long Beach Heritage’s Preservation Award for its refurbishing and preservation of the original 1941 Art Deco terminal and the gorgeous floor tile mosaics, which were discovered during construction in 2013.

Traveler Magazine voters praised the open-air concourse with California vibes and the historic terminal, which reminds travelers of the glamorous Golden Age of Flying. More than 300,000 readers voted in this year’s poll and LGB earned an overall score of 77.92.

Of course, savvy SoCal travelers have long-known Long Beach as the hidden gem of airports. Not to mention, food lovers worldwide embrace the trend-setting food court serving up some of the downtown’s favorite fare, such as George’s Greek Café, and Taco Beach Grill & Cantina.

This weekend aviation fans and aspiring pilots alike can get up close and personal with a free behind the scenes look of the airport at Long Beach Airport’s Festival of Flight on Saturday November 5, from 10am – 2pm. This marks the 4th year LGB has hosted the event that features, aircraft and auto displays, live music, giveaways, a children’s play area and, of course – food from some of Long Beach’s favorite eateries.

Airport Director, Jess L. Romo is eager to inspire residents to take flight. “We are thrilled to host this community event. Our airport holds an esteemed spot in aviation history and a special place in the community. We will provide wonderful family-friendly entertainment and inspire a new generation of aviation enthusiasts during the Festival of Flight,” said Romo.

We couldn’t be happier that the secret is out on what we in Long Beach have known for years: If you must leave Long Beach, LGB is the only way to go.
